After our still life tutorial with Dr Tom Slevin I understood my idea of shooting faces wasn't that good because they are not object but faces. I pondered Tom's advice quite a bit and decided to shoot a mask made of a broken mirror to show the fragmentation of identity. I didn't want to make the mask look as a woman nor a man, but to make it as neutral and universal as possible to show how this notion of identity affects everyone.
As for lighting and props I wanted the mask to look very disturbed and have a shallow depth of field. In my first photograph the shallowness was maybe in the wrong places and the mask didn't look as good as in the second photo where one can see the face in more clear yet distorted way.
